BOOK, MUSIC AND LYRICS: Suzy Conn
Suzy Conn is a musical theatre composer, lyricist, and librettist interested in telling the stories of women throughout history.
Chick Flick the Musical tells a contemporary story of female friendship. SUFFRA-JETS (first performed at NYMF as PLANE CRAZY) tells the story of the emergence of the modern women’s movement set against the backdrop of the swinging ’60s Jet Age. THE MERCER GIRLS tells the story of how women civilized the Pacific Northwest. COCKTAIL NUTS tells the story of cocktail waitresses in the ‘70s; and COMICON THE MUSICAL is a contemporary story of self-discovery. Suzy is currently working on a ’50s Christmas musical that tells the empowering story of an under-appreciated female elf.
Suzy has taught musical theater writing in the Seattle area for the Village Theatre’s Kidstage program, and served as the writing mentor for three years for their Company Originals program. TYA shows include THE TALE OF PIGLING BLAND; FIELD TRIP: JOURNEY TO MOUNT ST HELENS; LARRY GETS LOST IN SEATTLE; DAISY THE FIRECOW; SAVE AS…; and THE LAST SHOT.
DIRECTOR: Mary Catherine Burke
Mary Catherine Burke has directed at 59E59th, The New York Musical Theatre Festival, The Flea, HERE, ARS NOVA and EST’s Octoberfest. Her production of AUSTENTATIOUS at the New York Musical Theatre Festival was described as the next off-Broadway hit by the NY Times. Regionally she has directed at ReVision Theatre where her production of THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS was hailed as “…extraordinary…” by The NJ Star Ledger.
For Amphibian Stage Productions in Ft. Worth, Texas she has directed TIME STANDS STILL and FICTION, which was hailed as one of the best productions in Dallas by Arts and Culture Magazine. Her work has been described as: “…incisive and intriguing…” by the Dallas Morning News, “…quippy and comical” by Theatre Jones and “…an exceptionally well presented play…the acting and direction, by Mary Catherine Burke, in this production are absolutely first-rate…” by DFW News.
Mary Catherine also served as the Director of Programming at The New York Musical Theatre Festival where she has championed writers such as Eli Bolin, Natalie Joy Johnson, and Douglas Cohen. Her shows have included CLINTON THE MUSICAL, which is enjoying a transfer to Off-Broadway; BAYONETS OF ANGST, which is being produced at the Adirondack Theatre Festival; RESCUE RUE, which is being co-produced by NY Children’s Theatre Festival and Daryl Roth; SING ME HOME, which was presented at Goodspeed’s Festival of New Musicals; and ACADEMIA NUTS, which is being optioned by commercial producers. CHOREOGRAPHER: Tiffany Green
Tiffany Green is thrilled to be part of Chick Flick the Musical. Her directing and choreography credits include: THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY; NUNCRACKERS; THE ORESTEIA; and HAIRSPRAY. In addition to her theatrical credits, Tiffany is a recognized Director and Creative Producer for companies such as Airbnb; Laureate Universities; Martha Stewart Omnimedia; Bloomberg LP; and NBC News. She can be seen as Bunny on Marvel’s Jessica Jones (Netflix) in the fall of 2015. Other film and television performance credits include: Hairspray; Rescue Me; College Road Trip; and The Underlings. Recent theatre performance credits include: LES MIS: Mme. Thenardier (St. Louis MUNY); SHREK: Mama Ogre/Humpty Dumpty (St. Louis MUNY); GREEN GABLES: Mrs. Walter Pringle (Hangar Theatre).
MUSIC DIRECTOR: Seth Weinstein
Seth Weinstein was the Musical Director and Composer of the Off-Broadway musical HOW TO SAVE THE WORLD AND FIND TRUE LOVE IN 90 MINUTES (New World Stages, 2006). He has toured internationally with Fosse and Ivan Jacobs’s THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA and in the USA with ALMOST HEAVEN: SONGS OF JOHN DENVER. Regionally, he has been the musical director of Black House (Zagreb, Croatia); Do I Hear a Waltz? (Arvada Center); Smokey Joe’s Cafe (Connecticut Repertory Theatre) and Chick Flick the Musical (Loft 227 and Millbrook Playhouse), among other shows.
Seth also wrote and recorded “The Chagall Suite” (an eight-movement piano piece based on themes of Marc Chagall’s artworks) and “Conversations” (a musical meeting between Chagall and Elvis Presley), and he has played the pieces in France, Germany, and the USA. He performs monthly with L’Opera Burlesque and he is the pianist for the MAC and Bistro Award–winning Screen Gems: Songs of Old Hollywood (featuring Sarah Rice) and Operation Opera (baritone Adelmo Guidarelli’s amusing tribute to opera, a participant in the 2011 Edinburgh Festival Fringe).
